Gina (shudder!) lost -- Is this the end of Women’s MMA in America?
So after all the hype, our great American female hope, Gina Carano, lost to Cristiane Santos last night. Big deal.
Does anyone seriously believe this the end of Women’s MMA in America? I don’t think so. Gina’s only one female fighter – there are plenty more out there who are ready to make their presence known.
You may not know about them because they’re not famous yet, but if you start looking around your own neighborhood, you’ll start to see them. Why? Because this fight and the notoriety it brought has paved the way for female fighters to get noticed.
The following was written by a medical doctor. Please support the lady in your life, read this letter, and then sign the petition. AS FOLLOWS:
I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast. I remember begging the doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies.
Bruce – “About to put the Noose around Jarrod Card” – Conners
XFC will be putting on the 2nd pro-mma event in Knoxville, Tennessee. The highly-anticipated featherweight showdown between undefeated Bruce “The Noose” Connors (6-0) of Orlando, Florida and Jarrod “The Wild Card” Card (9-2-1) of Jacksonville, North Carolina will now be for the XFC featherweight world championship. The two 145-pound fighters will battle in the main event of XFC 8: “Regional Conflict” on Saturday, April 25, at the 21 thousand-capacity Thompson-Boling Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee. The event will be televised live nationwide, exclusively on HDNet.
I had the opportunity to interview Bruce “The Noose” Conners the other day. This interesting, insightful, and life-experienced fighter says he’s ready to bring his game to the ring. Read all about my exclusive interview with Bruce and learn a bit about what motivates him and why he wants to fight.
Katrina: Your history is very impressive: briefly, according to sherdog.com, you’ve “served two tours in Kosovo and Afghanistan as a sniper scout with the U.S. Marines; and have served as an officer with the Florida police department’s SWAT team. In lieu of this history, what led you to fight pro-mma? Why switch? I mean, secure job, retirement, benefits, good pay... Bruce: Yes I did, thank you I was in Kosovo and Afghanistan and I served in Florida on the SWAT team! Yes – MMA is something I’ve always been interested in ever since I was a kid. I’ve always been into the martial arts but I never knew that I could actually make money at it (laughs!) I watched one of the beginning UFC’s and it’s always been a dream of mine! I’m only 29 years old and since most MMA fighters mature in their late 30’s, I figure I’ve got some time left to fight!
Katrina: What did you think of Chuck Liddell’s performance this weekend? Bruce: Sort of disappointed. He did a lot for the sport and he’s had his time. every fighter has that moment when they have to decide if it’s time to move on to bigger and better things.
Just got this from a friend via email. Too funny - I think we should find the person who figured this out and each mail them $10 for their genius...
Oh - and what does this have to do with female fighting? Absolutely nothing. But it's brilliant, and my blog, so there.

I have been cooking for at least 60 years and am I the only person that didn't know about this until TODAY......how many times has that roll come out of the box when I need a piece of foil!!!!!!!!
This is for all, men & women!
Was this something we were supposed to learn from our Moms? I can't believe it's been there all this time.
I had to go into the kitchen and check this out for myself.
Whoever looks at the end of your aluminum foil box?
You know when you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time.
Well, I would like to share this with you.
Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it, and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, Press here to lock end.
Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there?
I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too!
I can't count the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out, when I was trying to cover something up.
I'm sharing this with my friends.
I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this. (SHE'S NOT!)
I know you're going to go and check your boxes, so go ahead! (I DID!)
Didn't I tell you? Brilliant! So yeah - go check your boxes! Tell me what you find! ;-D
Payscale for female fighters still at odds...
Strikeforce Shamrock vs. Diaz Salary Payouts
Frank Shamrock is a great business man - check out his salary! The total payout for the night's event was $634,415.
Nick Diaz: $39,950 (includes $10,000 win bonus) def. Frank Shamrock: $369,790
Gilbert Melendez: $49,890 (no win bonus) def. Rodrigo Damm: $9,190
Shingo Kohara: $940 (no win bonus) def. Jeremy Tavares: $940
I am a bit disappointed in Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos' $18,000, although the inclusion of the $10,000 win bonus is par with the rest of the fighters, and a bit disappointed in Hitomi Akano's measly $1,450, but again, it's par with the rest of the fighters, so not too much to complain about really! But then $49,890 for the win and a $10k win bonus, plus $9,190 for the defeated fighter, would have been better, especially considering both these ladies came quite a distance for their fights!
