Female Ammy MMA fighter? Want to fight? "Eve of Destruction" wants you!
WMMA fans and fighters will be excited to learn that the North American Allied Fight Series (NAAFS) will be holding the first ever all female amateur mixed martial arts event to take place in the state of Ohio!
Called “Eve of Destruction”, this fight event will take place on Saturday September 18th, 2010 at Chapparell’s Community Center in Akron, OH. "This will mark the first time that an MMA event to take place in the state of Ohio will be comprised entirely of women’s bouts. The NAAFS established the National Amateur Women’s division in 2008 and Jessica Eye of Independence, OH was crowned the first ever National Amateur Women’s Champion at the 2009 edition of Night of Champions."
According to the NAAFS website, "Since the inception of the division, the NAAFS has gone on to feature over 20 female bouts with many more to come. Female fighters that have competed in the NAAFS included the aforementioned Jessica Eye, “The Little Warrior” Barb Honchak, Marie Colangelo, “The DNA Princess” Jessica Zomcik, Amanda Wilcoxen, Leitta Suchevich, and many more.

In breaking news,Windy TomomidefeatsMonica Lovatovia unanimous decision at Pancrase MMA Japan this weekend. Tomomi and Lovato duked it out on their feet, with Tomomi getting an armbar attempt in the first round. Tomomi would use her leg kicks to weaken Lovato, and get the win. This improves Tomomi to 15-12 and is her third straight win since her loss with #1 ranked Megumi Fujii last November.

In breaking news, #3 ranked 145 pounderHiroko Yamanakatook one step closer to getting a match with Strikeforce champion, Cyborg Santos. At the S-Cup event in Japan, Hiroko faced debuting mma fighter and top muay thai fighterSandy Furner, who was substituting for Olympic freestyle wrestling bronze medalist Randi Miller, who had suffered a hand injury during training. Furner would do some effective striking until Hiroko took down the muay thai fighter, securing the choke at 1:45 in the first round.
Strikeforce had stated to MMARising that they would be watching the match carefully, but there was no guarantees that Hiroko would be getting the shot at Santos. Hiroko has been campaigning the past year for a shot at the 145 pound Strikeforce champ.

Strikeforce Champ Sarah Kaufman
In breaking news, Strikeforce has announced the date and location for Sarah Kaufman's second Strikeforce title defense. Kaufman will face #2 ranked 145 pounder Marloes Coenen in San Jose Oct. 9. This will be the first time Kaufman has been off a Challenger’s card, and the first time Marloes Coenen has ever dropped to 135 pounds.
Coenen’s last match was with tko loss to Strikeforce 145 pound title holder Cyborg Santos back in January. Coenen was expected to have a match for Glory 12 in October, but that card was cancelled. Kaufman’s last match was with Roxanne Modafferi this past July, in which won by TKO. The winner of this match will face Meisha Tate.
No revenge match this time - Zoila Frausto's just out for the win!
Thursday night, Bellator returns to the historic Chicago Theatre for Bellator 25 with a packed fight card of eight scheduled fights that feature three tournament fights and a match up of two top welterweight veterans.
In the Heavyweight division, undefeated Polish sensation Damian Grabowski (13-0) makes his US debut against ground-and-pound specialist Scott Barrett (10-1). (Check out the Bellator Promo video below on Grabowski.)
Also, 2-time NCAA Champion Cole Konrad (4-0) will place his unblemished MMA record on the line against Spanish submission ace Rogent Lloret (9-1-1) in another quarterfinal bout.
You'll find Season 2 welterweight finalist, Dan “the Handler” Hornbuckle (21-3), on this card as well, as he attempts to rebound from his Season 2 finals loss against UFC veteran “Bad” Brad Blackburn (17-11-1).
And while we're very much interested in the men's fights, what we're especially excited about are the WMMA fights. Thursday night, the Women's division offers another quarterfinal tourney fight, featuring undefeated Jessica Pene (7-0), against Zoila "The Warrior Princess" Frausto (7-1, with her only loss being to Miesha Tate ), whose shocking "revenge of the sister" (and clearly the underdog) KO of pre-tournament favorite, Rosi Sexton, at Bellator 23, catapulted her into the minds and hearts of fight fans. It wasn’t pretty, but #10 ranked Miesha Tate is now second in line for the 135 pound title.
Tate defeated Maiju Kujala and #6 ranked Hitomi Akano to win the inauguralStrikeforceWomen’s 135 pound tournament this past Friday night in Phoenix.
The 2 three minute rounds seemed inadequate for the fighters to really showcase their skills, and go full out to get a win. Bad reffing by the Arizona State Athletic commission and the substitution of the ten second knock by the ten second whistle confused fighters. However, the fighters did their best to showcase their skills, and three more Strikeforce newbies are now in the public eye.
Tate’s semi-final match was tougher than expected, as the now (4-2) Kujala who was able to go for a choke on the bottom, while Tate was trying for a should choke, would be stood up in the first. Tate would dominate round 2 with strikes and takes the match by unanimous decision.
