Raising kids harder than KOing foes for Alexander

Houston Alexander chuckles and begs you not to make him out to be Superman.

After carefully examining the facts, though, you arrive at the inescapable conclusion that Superman is the perfect nickname for the fast-rising UFC light heavyweight contender.

And no, it's not because of his two knockout victories in his first two UFC fights, which took a combined one minute and 49 seconds, though his victims, Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara, may be buying into the Superman hype a bit at this point.

And neither is it because of his ability to bench press as much as 450 pounds, or more than twice his body weight, because being a star weight lifter is no guarantee of success as a mixed martial arts fighter.

Alexander, who faces his biggest challenge on Nov. 17 at UFC 78 in Newark, N.J., when he meets Thiago Silva, earns the Superman moniker every day as the single parent of six children.

Taking care of six children between the ages of 5 and 16 is a big enough job for a small squadron of adults. For a guy who has emerged as one of the world's elite light heavyweights, with all the training and business demands that entails, to also be able to cook and clean around the house each day is super hero kind of stuff.

Cooking, cleaning and beating people up makes for a full day.

Belinda Dunne - The Queen of POP!

If the female fighters of POP are the Princesses of Pain, then Belinda Dunne is their Queen.

Recently I had the opportunity to speak with Belinda Dunne, director of Princesses of Pain (POP), an international women's fight league, featuring the combative sports of MMA and Kickboxing. Located in beautiful New Zealand, POP was the first ever women's MMA to be held in that country. Working hard, and with the support of friends and her fighters, Belinda Dunne has paved the way for the promotion of women's fighting. Already taking New Zealand by storm, in 2008 Belinda also sponsored an all-female fight card between her team and a team of female fighters from the U.S. She now wants to continue that success and bring Women's MMA to an International level.

Proposed Mastectomy Law Change

The following was written by a medical doctor.  Please support the lady in your life, read this letter, and then sign the petition.  AS FOLLOWS:

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast. I remember begging the doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies.

Monetizing MMA - good, bad or ugly? (Part 2)

Projekt Label TeamI promised that in Part 2 of this series, I'd start actually reviewing a company, product, or service.

On April 25th, I had the opportunity to interview Chris Leo, one of the company partners at Projekt Label - and I believe this review has allowed me to delve into all three aspects, because Projekt Label provides products and services.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always kind of been one to choose the underdog. I try to “buy local” when I can. Get my vege’s from the local farmer’s stand out on the highway. That sort of thing. Pretty easy to figure out how to buy from those guys, I mean they’re right there. And when it comes to purchasing MMA products, gear or services, I try to be just as choosy. When it comes to the fancy, slick MMA products out there today, however, it’s kind of hard to figure out who the underdog is and who you can trust. Like how can you tell who’s out there strictly to slide in the ring for a quick buck and get out before wasting any energy…and who’s sincere? In my opinion, there’s only one way – get to know the people behind the product or service, then test it out. I did that with the fellows over at Projekt Label.

Who’s Projekt Label and what do they do? Well, they sponsor their fighters through product sales, like T-shirts and MMA gear. Each fighter gets to design their own stuff, with help from the experts at the company, if requested. The fighter can even sell their own stuff to raise funds to help pay expenses. Pretty cool idea.
